Video: HÆLOS – Perfectly Broken

Perfectly Broken is the second installation from HÆLOS, adding to their latest body of work being released on their newly founded Æ imprint. An undercurrent of sophisticated yet less ordinary electronica forms the spine driving a melodic tale and stylised rendition of a fated partnership between the self and the state.

A perfectly uncertain reflection on the fragments of closure comforted with the familiar compliment of signature HÆLOS male-female vocal arrangement and the introduction of a third vocal from behind the fourth wall.

Testament to the hard-working, independent ethos of the band, they have self produced an apt visual to match which unfolds and unravels to climax through layers of digital data corruption.

Video: HÆLOS – Unknown Melody

Unknown Melody, the dynamic, sun soaked new single out 26th June on their own Æ imprint, shows the band once again reinvent themselves in a burst of vivid technicolour. This unfolding, contemplative piece of contemporary electronica stares down a chaotic future in anthemic defiance; encouraging the careless joy and freedom that comes with letting go, and in the process offering up a fitting mantra for these uncertain times. One thing is for sure, Unknown Melody will be blasted out across every makeshift dance floor by everyone who considers this band their best kept secret.

The band have embarked on a collaboration with film maker Elliot Gonzo, ’remixing’ his documentary TARU to serve as visuals for Unknown Melody.

#4 of the 2010s: HÆLOS – Full Circle

#9 of 2019: HÆLOS – Any Random Kindness

Joris Voorn – Messiah feat. HÆLOS

Dutch DJ, producer and label-owner Joris Voorn today announced his highly-anticipated fourth studio album, ‘\\\\’ [four] will be released on November 15 via his new imprint, Spectrum Music. Along with the news, he revealed the next single from the album, the stunning melodic odyssey “Messiah feat. HÆLOS”.

A proper introduction to his full-length LP, “Messiah” is a collaboration with London electronic quartet HÆLOS whose cross-genre output spans soundscapes from trip-hop to shoegaze. The track sees Joris blend a 90s inspired breakbeat and early rave aesthetic with glistening synth arpeggios, layered atop the ethereal vocals of HÆLOS frontwoman, Lotti Benardout.

Voorn’s 14-track album finds its inspiration in the formative era of Europe’s electronic scene in the mid-’90s where the musical heartbeat of the underground was born. Alongside HÆLOS, the album features collaborations with British electronic stalwarts Underworld, spoken word maestro Lazarusman, and Dutch pianist Michiel Borstlap.

Through to album release, Voorn will perform at some of the world’s most regarded festivals, parties and venues including Connect, ANTS, Rave Rebels, ADE, E1 London and more.

Today London-based electronic quartet HÆLOS release their highly anticipated sophomore album, Any Random Kindness via Infectious, which includes previously released tracks: “tender and atmospheric” (The Line of Best Fit) ‘Another Universe’, “piece of pop euphoria” (Clash) ‘End of the World Party’,“anxious and melancholic” (Stereogum) ‘Boy / Girl’, ‘Kyoto’, and ‘Buried in The Sand’. The follow up to 2016’s trip hop-influenced Full Circle, Any Random Kindness examines the search for connection in an increasingly fractured world.

Throughout Any Random Kindness, HÆLOS reflect upon the current state of the modern world, combining organic instrumentation with modular electronica to reflect the colliding nature of technology and humanity, looming climate change, and corrupt politics. “We pushed each other to a far more vulnerable and exposed place on this record,” says Benardout. “By making space for individual voices we were able to explore an intimacy and closeness that we hadn’t found before.”  The album was produced by Dom Goldsmith and recorded in a variety of locations—from Benardout’s basement and Delaney’s house to a studio in the English countryside, miles away from their city digs.

Any Random Kindness is an astoundingly textured record and a huge leap forward for HÆLOS’ band members Lotti Benardout, Arthur Delaney, Dom Goldsmith and Daniel Vildósola. The shivering, gorgeous atmospheres conjured on the album are more warm-blooded and varied than ever, the result of a new approach to live instrumentation the band took in-studio. Even though the latter part of creating the record was especially intense, a newly developed HÆLOS emerged, one with optimistic perceptions of each other and a fresh, dance-floor oriented sound.

Ahead of their sold-out headline show at EarTH in Hackney, HÆLOS have also announced a 13 date UK & European tour in October, following performances at Rough Trade East, The Great Escape and Field Day festivals. Tickets are available to buy at http://haelos.com/.

HÆLOS – Boy / Girl

HÆLOS – the London-based band comprised of Lotti Benardout, Arthur Delaney, Dom Goldsmith, and Daniel Vildósola – share “Boy / Girl” from their sophomore album Any Random Kindness, out May 10th via Infectious. Following the previously released ‘Kyoto’ and “percussive, house-inflicted” (FADER) ‘Buried in the Sand’, ‘Boy / Girl’ is a brooding examination of technology’s role in modern relationships, featuring undulated beats and dark synths. “Boy / Girl was one of the first songs we finished writing for Any Random Kindness. It’s about the breakdown of a relationship in the digital age and a retreat into the comforts of technology. A conversation between a boy and a girl filled with all the feelings of sadness and frustration at their inability to connect.”

The follow up to 2016’s trip hop-influenced Full Circle, Any Random Kindness examines the search for connection in an increasingly fractured world. Throughout, HÆLOS refer to different facets that affect the modern world, combining organic instrumentation with modular electronica to reflect the colliding nature of technology and humanity, the looming climate change, and corrupt politics.

The album was recorded at Baltic Studios in East London and at their home studio, and was produced by Dom Goldsmith. For Any Random Kindness, HÆLOS reassessed their creative approach, conducting songwriting experiments and returning to previous interests – Delaney wrote on acoustic guitar and Goldsmith retreated into his love of Perlon inluenced minimal techno. Even though the latter part of creating the record was especially intense, a newly developed HÆLOS emerged, one with optimistic perceptions of each other and a fresh, dance-floor oriented sound. “We pushed each other to a far more vulnerable and exposed place on this record,” says Benardout. “By making space for individual voices we were able to explore an intimacy and closeness that we hadn’t found before.”
