The lead remix – premiering via DJ Mag, arrives alongside a dub edit, an instrumental version and a radio edit.

An infectiously upbeat track, the original version possesses an undeniable, instant sing-along appeal. Frontwoman Skye Edward’s silky vocals (lyrics co-penned by Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner) drift effortlessly in, accompanied by blissful acoustic guitar chords. A tranquil, laid back beat joins the proceedings, before a wave of golden haze washes over as it builds and drops.

Acclaimed artist RAC (pronounced Ar-Ay-Cee) – known as Andre Allen Anjos – has released a new remix of his current single “This Song” from space disco titans Lindstrom & Prins Thomas. “This Song” is from RAC’s highly anticipated new album out this summer via Counter Records. The original track features vocals from songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist ROSTAM, formerly of Vampire Weekend, who has collaborated with Solange, Frank Ocean, Hamilton Leithauser, RA RA Riot and more.

Taking RAC’s electronic-pop format into the clubs, the Lindstrom & Prins Thomas’ interpretation of ‘This Song’ is an eight and a half minute epic that takes the listener on a journey – expanding on the track’s arrangement with polyrhythmic percussion, immersive pads and a euphoric sound that’s tailor-made for terrace parties all summer long.

Of the remix, Anjos says: “I’ve been a huge fan of Lindstrom and Prins Thomas for many years now and it’s so cool to be on the other end of this. I really love what they did with this song and it gives it another dimension.”

Following the release of their acclaimed debut LP ‘Brainsugar’, Cubicolor return with a remix of ‘Fictionalise’ from iconic Norwegian duo Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas.

The pioneering pair have achieved notoriety over the past 13 years since first working together, with a remarkable back catalogue of influential work including much-loved solo albums, a collaborative LP, and joint remixes for the likes of The Chemical Brothers and Roxy Music. The duo join forces again for the first time since 2012 on a melancholic, disco-tinged remix, following a fruitful few years of solo releases which have been acclaimed by the likes of Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, BBC 6Music and NPR.

The further adventures of Principe Del Norte (or “grabbing the panther by the tail”):

Immediately after wrapping up Principe Del Norte, Joakim Haugland (Smalltown Supersound’s founder) and I spoke about possible remixers for separate 12″ releases. Although I’ve remixed artists far and wide throughout the last decade (roughly 300 remixes and counting!), I’ve largely gone un-remixed myself, with the exception of Blackbelt Andersen’s rework of my debut single “Goettsching.” My music already sounds a bit “remixed” in the first place and I often consider it more as a mass of sound rather than actual songs that could be reinterpreted from what I’ve already done. I also usually have an alternate version of each track ready myself…

Anyway, I made an exception and told Joakim that if we’re going to do remixes, I want to go all out and ask a broad spectrum of producers that I admire; producers who could contribute with a vivid imagination and a wider range of sounds. I already had some of these artists in mind, having used music of theirs in my last mix CD Paradise Goulash, and some new names came up while we waited for others to deliver. As remixes slowly trickled in, I put the tracks in an order that made sense as an album. The final glue to hold it together came in the form of 3 new exclusive tracks of mine presented in Principe Del Norte Remixed: “I”, “J” and “K.”

I’m super psyched about presenting these versions to you; they’re melodies and bits from my own mind taken in new directions by a talented bunch of producers.

It’s going be a wild ride, and one I hope you’ll enjoy as much as I do.

Roosevelt – Colours (Prins Thomas Diskomiks)

On August 19th Marius Lauber AKA Roosevelt releases his stunning, self-titled debut album via Greco-Roman / City Slang records. Now, the official remix of single ‘Colours’ by Norwegian maestro Prins Thomas takes Roosevelt’s already uplifting original and works it into a deep, piano laden hypno-euphoric dancefloor masterpiece, which is primed for maximum festival and dancefloor madness this Summer. As well as this original remix, Prins Thomas will be providing an instrumental version and Roosevelt will be releasing his own dub take on the single.

“The Oslo disco scene has always been a big influence on my own productions, so it’s a big honour for me to have Prins Thomas remix one of my tracks.” Lauber tells us, “I would often play his remixes in my own DJ sets, because his way of creating club-friendly tracks – that still include a Krautrock and effortless 70’s vibe – is really unique. I saw Prins Thomas play one of his 5 hour sets and was blown away by his ability to build a sonic landscape with so much patience, educating the crowd with his selection and creating tension over a few hours, rather than feeling the urge to please them every 2 minutes”

Written, recorded and produced by Lauber over a period of two years. ‘Roosevelt’ the album is a pillow-soft hallucinatory dreamscape of nocturnal reveries and a lilting sense of melancholia, where sounds build and swell like waves.

Roosevelt’s signature hazy sound which ascends ever skywards is still present and correct – but this time it’s honed, crafted and less loop based. ‘Roosevelt’ showcases Lauber as a fully developed recording artist, with an instinctive synthesis of different soundscapes. This is a record with a deep affinity to the dance music world unified with sophisticated, classic song structures.

Roosevelt’s growth was catalyzed by an early DJ residency at Kompakt’s Total Confusion party alongside Superpitcher & Michael Mayer, with the label also releasing an early remix of his for COMA. These experiences helped Lauber realize how dance music connects to its audience in a different way to what he’d experienced from earlier days spent performing in bands. “What I really enjoyed about DJing was that you could see the results immediately – there was feedback and interaction from the crowd”, he explains.

Following this nightclubbing baptism, his career as an electronic artist gathered momentum. With praise from a selection of taskemaker media, mixes for Boiler Room, Electronic Beats and i-D, support tours with Hot Chip and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and a litany of high-profile festival slots around the world, Lauber steadily built up a dedicated following.

Following Prins Thomas’ lovingly received 4 X LP vinyl ambient record Principe Del Norte released last week, Smalltown Supersound announce the equally sprawling remix package to compliment it, including remixes from seminal ambient legends The Orb and artists featured on his ‘Paradise Goulash’ mix in 2015; Sun Araw, Young Marco, I:Cube, Ricardo Villalobos and Hieroglyphic Being.

The intertextuality between Paradise Goulash, Principe Del Norte and the remix package is underlined when you think back to the track that opened CD3 of the Paradise Goulash. It was ‘The Subbadubba Beat (Stockholmia Glue mix) by Swedish producer Joel Brindefalk recording as Ü, a conversation about whom sparked the idea for Principe. ‘I likened Joel’s record to The Orb’s Peel Sessions record, which then had me and Joakim from Smalltown talking about me doing an ambient record’ says Prins.

The Hieroglyphic Being remixes 12” will be the first to be available on March 18th 2016 in the UK and Europe and April 15th 2016 in North America and Japan. Release date for the second double 12” and The Orb and Sun Araw remixes to be confirmed and all remixes will be collected on a double CD and digital release to be released in Summer 2016.

Prins Thomas announces massive 4xLP ambient record, “PRINCIPE DEL NORTE”, out February 19 2016 on SMALLTOWN SUPERSOUND.

Roughly a year ago, an Instagram-post and a recommendation of a posthumous release by Swedish producer Joel Brindefalk sparked an idea forPrins Thomas.  He heard his release ” Doobedoo Dub’e’dope” under the moniker Ü, and began to draw comparisons to KLF’s Chill Out, The Orb’s “Peel Session EP,” and Black Dog’s Spanners. Enthused about those early 90’s “electronica” releases, Thomas set off on the task at hand, making an “ambient” album, leaving conventional drums and drum machines out of the equation. The result is the massive 4XLP, 2XCD Principe Del Norte, out 2/19 on Smalltown Supersound. Below, you can stream the track “B”.

A few tracks were loosely inspired by the “braindance,” aka IDM of the 90’s and its themes and components have been reworked into slightly more “danceable” counterparts. The song “titles” refers to the sides of the vinyl version. How one listen to this album is entirely up to the listener, but Thomas would recommend finding center position in front of your speakers, a comfortable couch or chair and dedicate yourself to the music for a long hour.
