Marc Romboy – Moonface/Zukunft Remixes

DAQPwnJK0OST-original

Marc Romboy’s masterful EP Moonface/Zukunft is given the remix treatment from some of the scene’s most credible and sort after producers. John Digweed & Nick Muir, Mathame, Third Son and Jonathan Kaspar all provide their own version.

John Digweed & Nick Muir are the first to step up with their mind-bending and progressive take on Moonface. The pair manage to retain the otherworldly vibe of the original, whilst adding elements that create an intense and driving number. Mathame, the project of brothers Amedeo and Matteo Giovanelli, take the track deeper, constructing a euphoric, trance-influenced number glistening with euphoria. Next to get the rework treatment is Zukunft. Third Son’s Rave Mix is precisely that. A perfectly executed rave track reminiscent of the acid house era. Resident of the famed Gewölbe club Jonathan Kaspar’s interpretation incorporates a pacing beat, conjuring up an intense atmosphere, bringing the package full circle.

A name synonymous with quality and one that remains relevant today, Marc Romboy has an illustrious musical career under his belt. He’s released on some of the industry’s most refined labels including Gruuv, Ovum and 20/20 Vision. His own label, Systematic Recordings, started in 2004 and has become hugely influential in the industry, signing music from big names including Booka Shade and Stephan Bodzin.

Emerson, Digweed & Muir – Tracer

BEDDIGI100_Digital Artwork_email

Bedrock Digital is set to celebrate its milestone 100th digital label single release in superb style with ‘Tracer’, the second single from Emerson, Digweed & Muir – a collaborative project of the highest order from three of the scene’s most respected creative mavericks, whose huge debut ‘Fanfare’ (Beddigi88) had fans everywhere begging for more. Enlisting Berlin’s inspirational Watergate resident Ruede Hagelstein on remix duty completes the perfect package to mark yet another Bedrock landmark.

“For me, personally, it’s such a privilege not only to be still working with John, who I consider to be one of the finest DJs ever to ply his craft, but also to work with Darren, who is one of THE most pivotal characters in UK house music and therefore the world, to whose records I remember dancing to deliriously numerous times, with everyone refusing to let the party end. And there’s the clue to the success of Bedrock – we do it because we love it!” – Nick Muir

Between them, John Digweed and Nick Muir, producers of the finest electronic dance music, have been involved in many pivotal moments in the world of club music over the years and have in many ways helped to define genres & push the boundaries further. Their partnership has been one of electronic music’s most fruitful pairings, creating a body of work that’s seen them become one of the world’s most highly regarded production duos. Joining forces with Detone boss Darren Emerson, who since his pioneering days with Underworld has remained at the forefront of the electronic scene across the last three decades for good reason, is a mission statement, showing that this illustrious trio are not resting on past laurels, but always developing themselves musically in exciting new directions.

Rather appropriately, in its original form ‘Tracer’ is an unmistakably heavyweight, pulsating, peak-time monster, loaded with menacing, fizzing, energetic, celebratory creative abandon. Meanwhile, Darren Emerson’s ‘Womb Mix’ develops ‘Tracer’ into an equally stunning, bombastic, stripped back, techno colossus, showcasing his supremely individualistic creative flair. In perfect juxtaposition to the trio’s versions, the dialled-back, low-slung, brooding throb of Ruede Hagelstein’s mesmerizing interpretation, bristling with unrivalled electronic detail, perfectly rounds what is an exceptional creative circle.

In this day and age to not only survive as an independent label, but to flourish and constantly evolve, bringing forward and developing new and exciting talent to stand equally alongside established household names, is something that should be applauded. The global respect and love that Bedrock has steadily gained through years of releasing quality dance music that rides the waves of trends and fashions is second to none. 2017 has already seen a steady flow of exceptional Bedrock releases and there is so much more to yet to come.

Secret Knowledge – Sugar Daddy (John Digweed & Nick Muir Remix)

maxresdefault

The 5th instalment of John Digweed’s globetrotting ‘Live In…’ legendary mix series, recorded at Vagabond Nightclub in Downtown Miami during Miami Music Week 2014, featured 37 tracks notching up nearly four hours of music, spanning more than two decades, and included the classic ‘Sugar Daddy’, one of the most seminal dance tracks from 1992. Once heard, this inspirational track, created by Kris Needs and Wonder in their Secret Knowledge guise, can most certainly never be forgotten, and the rush of excitement and adulation that the revived classic received set the wheels in motion for John Digweed and Nick Muir to remix the track for a summer 2016 full single release on Bedrock, along with two of the re-mastered original versions.

Initiating proceedings with their trademark, super-solid percussive backbone, John Digweed and Nick Muir have had untold fun re-arranging, twisting and tweaking a plethora of spellbinding parts from the original to create their own distinctive updated vision of the original classic. Wonder’s gloriously breathy, seductive vocal, married with a selection of irresistibly hypnotic Moroder-esque hooks is a perfect combination for the duo to create one of the most stunningly distinctive reworks of 2016.

To anyone who was clubbing back in the early 90’s that “Whoo….” from the Original Mix still sends shivers down the spine today. Add to the equation a thunderstorm; bluesy finger snaps; Wonder’s unbelievably erotic vocals; a body pummelling kick drum; Kris Needs’ homage to the mighty Giorgio Moroder via a merciless, throbbing groove; top it all off subtle, euphoric pads; utilise the unrivalled engineering and mixing skills of Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns; and what you have is the perfect recipe that led to the creation of one of the best, ecstatic electronic club tracks from an era when anything was possible and genre restrictive rules were yet to be written. Now, re-mastered for a summer 2016 release on Bedrock, a new generation of clubbers can discover the delights of Secret Knowledge and their ‘Sugar Daddy’.

The respectful package is completed with the re-mastered original Out Of Our Brains on The 5.15 Mix (a remix created with the involvement of David Holmes after he witnessed the unbelievable emotional crowd reaction when Andrew Weatherall dropped the original mix at a club in Brighton, along with Ashley Beedle, Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns). But that’s only a small part of an amazing story… If you want to join the dots and discover more about all the players involved in the creation of this landmark record you might want to spend a little time reading Andrew Whitehurst’s excellent interview with Kris Needs for DJ Mag, from a few years ago: https://djmag.com/content/game-changers-secret-knowledge-sugar-daddy

John Digweed & Nick Muir – Track For Life EP

Bedddigi69

Between them, John Digweed and Nick Muir, producers of the finest electronic dance music, have been involved in many pivotal moments in the world of club music over the years and have in many ways helped to define genres & push the boundaries further. Their partnership has been one of electronic music’s most fruitful pairings, creating a body of work that’s seen them become one of the world’s most highly regarded production duos.

“Track For Life” is another mission statement, showing that they are not resting on past laurels, but always developing their sound in an exciting direction. The low-slung, hypno-throb groove with expanding melodic flourishes is totally masterful as the track’s beguiling energy builds subtly throughout.

Remix duties fall to Argy and Yousef, two exceptional driving forces within the modern electronic dance scene, and the perfect candidates to take “Track For Life” in distinctly different and eminently exciting directions and provide fitting alternatives to the Original.

Argyris Theofilis aka Argy has a rare talent for taking audiences on musical journeys they might never have imagined, weaving sonic tapestries that defy easy categorization of genre or era. His Argy Remix ups the pace and develops “Track For Life” into an unmistakably heavyweight, pulsating, peak-time monster.

Meanwhile, Yousef’s Circus Rework, locked down by a highly distinctive, tight, clanking, hip-swinging groove, is loaded with wonderful, bubbling energetic abandon.

Two great remix versions of one great track, means yet another exceptional release from Bedrock. Released: 28th September 2015.

Fairmont – Lie to Me Remixes EP

MFR_113-1417x1417

A year after Fairmont dropped his highly impressive Lie To Me EP, Canadian outfit My Favorite Robot carefully curate a selection of remixes of tracks from this standout release. As well as one from the label’s eponymous production trio, the likes of Chloe, Abstraxion, Mattheis and John Digweed and Nick Muir all step up with their own great interpretations.

French producer Chloe you will know from releasing killer cuts on MFRR, Live at Robert Johnson, Throne of Blood & BPitch Control as well as serving up hot DJ sets and mix compilations at clubs like Rex in Paris and for labels like Kill The DJ. Her remix of ‘Boa’ is a sparse but moody house affair, with deep groaning bass and an atmosphere akin to a deserted late night street. It’s a tense, broody track that will make for lots of dramatic moments on the floor.

Next up, Harold Boué aka Abstraxion is a 29 years old French producer based in London and Marseille. He has released on Marketing, Biologic and Nicolas Jaar’s label Other People. His remix of ‘Abysm’ is an invitingly hurried, heavyweight bit of electronic house funk with tons of great synth lines, interesting pads and weird sounds that make you want to move.

Dutchman Mattheis of labels like Nous’klaer then goes for a much more blissed out, slow burning and ambient affair. He layers in lots of twinkling pads and rippled synth lines to his version of ‘The Most Beautiful Eyes in the World’ and it’s a stunning, widescreen bit of work that really sweeps you off your feet.

MFR themselves tackle ‘Lie to Me’ flipping it into a brooding bit of slivery, reflective and synth heavy tech that rises and falls in beautiful ways, with gorgeous pads and feathery hi hats making for a super inviting rhythm.

Finally the Bedrock boss and Renaissance legend that is John Digweed and his studio partner Nick Muir rework the same track with a sensitive heart and conjure up a warm, smooth and serene prog track that is riddled with great synths and really works you into a state of hypnosis.

These carefully chosen remixers all manage to get fantastic results here, and as a result the whole package excels. Out on November 24th 2014 on My Favorite Robot.

Tracklist:
1. Fairmont – Boa (Chloe Remix)
2. Fairmont – Abysm (Abstraxion Remix)
3. Fairmont – The Most Beautiful Eyes in the World (Mattheis Remix)
4. Fairmont – Lie To Me (MFR Remix)
5. Fairmont – Lie To Me (John Digweed and Nick Muir Remix)

John Digweed & Nick Muir x Fairmont x Extended Play x King Unique

cuvm_BEDVSRMX03_1

Almost a year after their iconic collaborative album ‘VERSUS’ first saw the light of day—a project for which the pair teamed up with no less than 12 of their favorite producers resulting in an extra special triple-disc package—John Digweed & Nick Muir continue to revitalize the critically acclaimed release by unveiling the latest in a slew of remixes from the inimitable album.

Now joining Extended Play and King Unique, both of whom released their unique interpretations back in August, comes Canadian techno kingpin Fairmont, who delivers his own exquisite contribution and provides the third installment in what is shaping up to be a seriously hard-hitting remix series.

‘BEDVSRMX03’ sees the talented Fairmont bring his own distinctive signature blend to one of the standout tracks from Versus—‘Gigawave’. Taking on an already pristine piece of work, the bold remix master introduces a warm and subtle yet persuasive bass line that transforms the original mix’s ambient textures into a mellow, uplifting dance floor revision.  John Digweed & Nick Muir – Gigawave (Fairmont Remix) is out now on Bedrock. Catch the preview here.

The first installment from the recent remix series came courtesy of Texas-based duo Extended Play, who delivered their fizzing, up-tempo interpretation of ‘Morphism’—Digweed & Muir’s previous collaborative effort with Bedrock favorites Pig&Dan. The original’s vast, expansive breaks are bridged and brimming with the brooding beats of these hugely talented rising stars. Check it out here.

Just weeks later, the second release saw ‘Dawnbreaker’ (their collaboration with Ian O’Donovan) receive the Midas touch from UK star King Unique, who gives the fizzing melodic techno soundscapes of the outstanding original version a taste of his highly original trademark combination of delicious underground house and tripped-out cosmic techno.

To purchase all of these and more head to Bedrock Records on Beatport. To keep up to date with all future releases and Bedrock News stay tuned to their official Facebook and Twitter pages. Listen to John Digweed’s Bedrock 16 Chart here.
