Sarah P. – Athena

The second instalment of Sarah P.’s upcoming album Plotting Revolutions consists of the songs “Athena” & “The Poem of a Clear Conscience”. Athena is a beat-driven, disco-inspired song about Sarah’s hometown – her “old/new home”, as she calls it. “Athena is a song I wrote about Athens while I was still living in Berlin and reluctant to resettle in my hometown. Many things have changed since then, but not my complicated relationship with the city I love to call my old/new home. Music-wise, I continue exploring the disco elements and the more organic sound of my Maenads EP, adding a “sturdy” rhythm section and floating synths & vocals that well-represent the paradoxes of my city – the edginess and fragility of Athens and its people.”

On the other hand, The Poem of a Clear Conscience is carried along by its lyrics and playful synths, keeping up with Sarah’s sarcastic flair for pop music. A poetic take on the times we live in and the incapability of our world leaders to find a common ground for matters that affect us all. “I find it troubling that politicians nowadays still choose to play on and by small party interests, when we’re faced with great challenges that question the longevity of our planet, as well as with big scale social, political, and economical instabilities that undermine the democratic values, worldwide”.

With the addition of the two new songs, following the release of first singles “Laying Low” & “She”, it’s becoming clear that Plotting Revolutions is a contemporary record that’s addressing difficult matters without losing its humor and positivity. Plotting Revolutions is Sarah P.’s most mature work to date, both musically and lyrically. Sarah is standing opposite to the society with a mirror, trying to wake up all those who may be sleeping – themes she’s been continuously exploring through her work (Who Am I, Maenads EP).

Video: Sarah P. – Maenads

Sarah P. releases the music video for Maenads, the title track of her latest EP, which is inspired by the ancient Greek female followers of god Dionysus, who were known for their superhuman strength, sticking together, and fighting for their beliefs.

Maenads EP garnered love from critics and fans and has been streamed more than 1 million times across platforms since its release in December.

Maenads is a disco-inspired song about those nights that are empty of feelings. The video’s visuals are a fast-forward to Sarah’s life in Berlin – rather secluded, away from distractions. “This isolation-by-choice gave me time to process life events that had shaped me.”

The song’s video features Sarah and Sabina Smith-Moreland cast as a bird that symbolizes mental illness. The video shows the importance of coming to terms with own struggles while not letting them overtake one’s life. “I’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety for a long time, but I’m convinced that it’s possible to control one’s mental health, rather than living a life controlled by mental illness,” Sarah shares.

“Mental illness never truly goes away, but learning more about it can help understand what’s going on inside your body and mind and therefore, control it better.”

Video: Sarah P. – Millennial Girl

Sarah P.’s new music video “Millennial Girl” is out now. It is a commentary to our societies’ obsession with perfection, as well as to the lavish online lives many lead. Sarcastically, Sarah sings “So I strive, I strive, I strive for perfection every time / But see no purpose. / And I buy, I buy, I buy hip, cool stuff I see online / To scratch the surface.”

“Millennial Girl” is taken from Sarah P.’s debut album Who Am I. The follow-up EP Maenads will be released in late 2018.

Along the video release, Sarah shares:
“Girls (of all ages) have always been told how to do things: how to do our hair, what to wear, how to lose weight, how to look pretty. Superficial worries have been passed on from generation to generation, only to keep us busy for a lifetime trying to get what we don’t have. I couldn’t be more proud and grateful for all the women worldwide who are challenging this narrative and breaking all these stupid, outdated stereotypes. To all the ladies here and everywhere – YOU ARE PERFECTION, just the way you are! I’m really excited to share with you my upcoming records and projects, inspired by female empowerment in the past, in the present and in the future. The Who Am I era is closing – the Maenads era is about to begin!”

Dream pop, slow jam “LoveStory” is the new single by Sarah P, out of her debut album Who Am I (out now via EraseRestart). The video was filmed by the award-winning director Eftychia Iosifidou and features Sarah and Clio Arvaniti. Friendship and sisterhood are two of the key themes of the video. What we witness is an unbreakable bond between two girls who no matter how far they are, they’ll always be close. “I like to think of it as the perfect day – a love story to last,” says Sarah. A heart-warming video, reassuring that when you give, you’re most likely going to get something back.

“LoveStory” is dedicated to those who, after experiencing hard times in their lives, got to find true bliss through someone or something and managed to let go of their infelicitous past. It’s also addressed to that special someone or something that lightens up our days. “You’re the one. I’m the earth and you’re my sun,” Sarah sings, well knowing that love is an essential part of our lives. “It’s a love song that can be sung to a mom, dad, child, sibling, friend, pet, lover; whomever/whatever’s cheering you up needs to receive this love letter,” she shares.

“Who Am I” is the second single and the title song of Sarah P.’s upcoming solo debut album. Style wise, the song is a mix of jungle, house and pop. Carried by its whimsical vocals, “Who Am I” is a complex song with a complex meaning. According to Sarah, it’s an ode to “humanity, the world we live in and our importance (or unimportance) as individuals and/or as a whole”.

For the music video, Sarah turned to Italian director Oirot Buntot. The visuals were shot at the Teatro Rossi Aperto in Pisa. The beautiful location, the actors and the dancers, Oirot’s beautiful storytelling and Sarah’s music – all pieces of a puzzle that, when put together, the paint a picture of a philosophical question people have been asking themselves for thousands of years; “Who am I and where I come from?”

Director Oirot Bunto states: I shot the video in the Teatro Rossi Aperto, an abandoned then squatted, 250-years-old Italian late-baroque theatre in Pisa. It’s a stunning place and it’s wonderful how perfectly it fits with the increasing rhythm of “Who am I”. This is my very first professional experience and I’m proud I made it with Sarah P. – and I’m also happy, of course. I would like to thank all the people that struggle every day to keep the Teatro Rossi Aperto open, and all my friends that participated, and Sarah for this opportunity and amazing experience.

Sarah P. states: “I go on saying that we live in a world of broken values and ethics. What we used to know as right seems to fade – sometimes for a good reason, some others to take us back to scary times. Good things happen, bad things happen – but we’re spinning so fast. We struggle to keep up – at least I do. And as you already know, I believe that going back to our roots and revisiting our history might help us to see and act clearer. Already with my previous song, “Berlin During Winter”, I talked to you about how I see things – how I don’t see a point in repeating mistakes and the importance of introspection.

That question – who am I? So simple, yet so emotionally charged. I went on for years asking who am I and where do I belong. I always felt connected to my Greek roots, but disconnected from Greece’s modern society. I always wanted to fly away from my mother land’s nest. When I did, I realised that people, in the exact moment they would learn that I’m Greek, they would reduce me to that, when all I wanted was to take bits and pieces of all cultures and be a real citizen of the world. However, it seems like my heritage can’t let me be what I want to be – and I don’t blame it a single bit.”

Sarah P. – Berlin During Winter (Holly Remix)

A few weeks after the release of “Berlin During Winter“, the first single of Sarah P.’s upcoming debut album Who Am I, Holly delivers a remix that’s bending between tropical house and chill-out.

Along today’s remix release Sarah shared an article stating:

“Today, I’m writing to share with you a piece of sunshine. Holly, a very talented young man from Portugal, reworked Berlin During Winter and gave it a South European treatment. And it got sunny and summery – definitely nostalgic and eerie. It lost its rocky edge, but for a very reassuring beat and calming piano melody that’s embracing the words and the feelings. Berlin During Winter is not depressive now – it’s just melancholic, like a beautiful girl with dark lips and a nonchalantly empty look. But she’s got more to it, the song’s got more to it.
As I wrote in my previous letter to you, Berlin During Winter is about all those things that I cannot wrap around my head. I ask you to take a moment and think of all the things that you cannot understand. All those things that are happening in the world and upset you, annoy you or leave you in shock. […] My solidarity goes to all of you who feel confused and disoriented. We’ll always have Berlin during winter.”

Since then, Holly toured Europe, North America, Australia, China, and India, released with labels like Buygore, Fool’s Gold Records, Dim Mak Records, Elysian Records, Good Enuff, Divison Recordings and Circus Records. Holly also counts with the support from The Chainsmokers, Baauer, Noisia, Bassnectar, UZ, Dyro, DJ Craze, DJ Shadow, Borgore, Steve Aoki, David Guetta, Laidback Luke, Martin Garrix and many more. |

“Berlin During Winter” is the first track from Sarah P.’s upcoming debut full-length “Who Am I”. Genre-wise, Sarah’s bending between dream pop and heavy guitar and bass riffs. In her own words, Berlin During Winter is electro ambient-core. As for the meaning of the song, except for the obvious one that the song title suggests, it’s painting the picture of the winter inside one’s self. Depression and devastation are the two leading emotions in this rollercoaster of a song, leaving the listener thinking about their past and future moves.

To make this message even bolder, the Greek artist compiled a video out of archive footage from war. “We can’t undo our history, but we can learn from it and shape our future,” Sarah states and invites everyone to roll up their sleeves and act before it’s too late.

Sarah P. – Teach Me How To Love

0004_Sarah_Anna_Psalti_by_Christoph_Neumann

“Teach Me How To Love” is Sarah P.’s first new single after the release of her solo debut EP “Free” in December 2015. The song is a collaboration with South-African producer Wisani. With its poppy lightness and good mood atmosphere, “Teach Me How To Love” invites to both dance and dream. At the same time, the song carries and important message: we have to learn again what it means to love and to stand side by side. Time to put a smile on the face and dance towards the future.
