New Build – Luminous Freedom Remixed EP

new build

After a busy year of Hot Chip commitments, New Build return this autumn with an EP entitled ‘Luminous Freedom Remixed’. The original track, ‘Luminous Freedom’ is taken from New Build’s self-produced debut album, ‘Pour It On’. Watch the official video below, directed by George Wu. The video itself features a range of “famous faces”, from Roald Dahl and Nick Cave to Brad Pitt and Ringo Starr.

‘Luminous Freedom Remixed’ is a 6 track EP of diverse remixes. Taking the lead on remix duties is house and techno wizard Tim Green and the Berlin experimental pop adventurer, rRoxymore. Further interpretations come courtesy of newcomer, Darkly who blends pop sensibilities with darker, industrial sounds and renowned techno producer, Phil Kieran. The package is topped off with a remix of ‘Look In Vain’ by DFA’s golden boy, Sinkane.

‘Pour It On’ is New Build’s celebrated album of rich, monolithic dance music, featuring the vocals of Al Doyle (Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem) alongside Felix Martin (Hot Chip) and Tom Hopkins. Steered by the band’s love of 70s folk visionaries, vintage British science fiction and modern techno, the messages woven into the album are both poetic and political.

The ‘Luminous Freedom Remixed’ release coincides with Hot Chip’s UK, US and European tour, kicking off on 13th October.

Hot Chip – Need You Now (Moonlight Matters Remix)

Belgian producer (and one half of Arches) Moonlight Matters chucks a sack of pianos at Hot Chip’s ‘Need You Now‘. Premiered over the weekend MM’s official remix of ‘Need You Now’ is now streaming on Soundcloud and available to buy as part of the ‘Need You Now – Remixes’ EP (alongside reworks by Dennis Ferrer and Percussions aka Kieren Hebden/Four Tet).

When i first heard “Need You Now” i instantly felt a strong connection with the track, it’s one of those tracks that just grabs your attention and puts you in a distinctive and nostalgic mood. Alexis’s magical vocals tones never cease to amaze and that Sinnamon vocal sample is just the icing on the cake of what seems to be the perfect blend.

It was Mark (Ralph), who produced the record and with whom i had been working on a different project at the time who pointed me out to the video as well which is AMAZING! I already had a clear picture in mind of what I’d do to the track when the Hot Chip boys gave me the opportunity to remix this piece of gold. Kid in a candy store…

I wanted to keep the original mood of the track in tact yet make a very personal reinterpretation upping the energy and the diva factor. Hence the pianos, drone bass and club drops… Hope I’ve done it justice !!!” – Moonlight Matters

Hot Chip have unveiled the video for their latest single “Need You Now”, taken from the band’s forthcoming sixth album “Why Make Sense?”.

The idea for the video wholly came from our reaction to the song. What was intended to be a piece of thrifty filmmaking ended up being a mind-melting shoot – if you can imagine shooting multiple versions of reality, but completely out of chronology, plus in the pissing rain and wind,” say director Shynola.

The “Why Make Sense?” LP is out on May 18th via Domino. Pre-order it here.
