Matt Relton continues to evolve under his Kidnap alias as he gifts us with another thoughtful and emotive production via his respected imprint, Birds That Fly. True to form, the Sheffield producer delivers a sublime track that is a reflection of his unique and intelligent sound.

Also the name for a constellation of stars visible in the Northern Sky, Ursa Minor takes the listener on a deep and moving journey. Opening with a flurry of cosmic arpeggios, the production is as dreamy as it is cinematic. The use of delicate percussion and glistening synths will leave you in a state of deep wonderment.

Kidnap has come a long way since he first came to the public’s attention in 2012, winning iTunes Best Electronic Track for Vehl. In 2016 he launched his own label, Birds That Fly, in a bid to create a platform where he could release music whilst retaining complete artistic freedom. Last year was a turning point in both Relton’s career and personal life. He dropped the ‘Kid’ from his name and began releasing under Kidnap, a nod towards his musical growth. This year has already seen Relton play a sold-out EP launch in London as well as a string of events across the US. 2018 will also see Relton take on the role as an ambassador for the popular “Corona Sunset Series”. The events take place across the globe in stunning locations and aim to reflect the nostalgic summer sounds and emotions that Kidnap’s music evokes.

Kidnap’s new EP is a melodic exploration of personal growth. ‘Aurora’ is a polished, emotive track with nostalgic trance flavours, warm synths and a resolute energy.

Lane 8 & Kidnap Kid – Aba

Kidnap Kid has joined forces with Lane 8 to release on Anjunabeats. It’s pretty special for the both of them as they started on the track in 2014 and have really built up a solid friendship. Even when the track was still in the demo stage it was heavily requested in their sets and their fans have been asking what it is for some time.

Kidnap Kid – Brokenhearted EP

Brokenhearted: Overwhelmed by grief or disappointment.

When words fail, music has the ability to depict the deepest of human emotions and once again Kidnap Kid uses his signature emotive and sophisticated production to do just that. He returns to Birds That Fly, the label he founded less than a year ago with ‘Brokenhearted’ an EP containing two original tracks.

Musicians have been making music about love and heartbreak for hundreds of years and Kidnap Kid’s statement on the eternally relevant topic starts with ‘Broken Hearted’, a track that taps into the memory vaults. Next up is ‘Mist’ whose simple melody is layered over intricate sounds to create an immensely absorbing track. Pulling away from his peers, Kidnap Kid undoubtedly has carved his own distinct sound and with his latest EP he is cementing his status as an artist that is continually growing and evolving.

The start of 2016 saw Kidnap Kid launch his Birds That Fly imprint as a platform for his own music as well as a means to support like minded producers, such as Applebottom and Amtrac, both releasing on the label with great success. The label’s debut release was from Kidnap Kid himself and ‘Moments’ was met with such high acclaim it collectively reached 10 million streams, 1.3 million of those coming from Spotify and subsequently made the Spotify chart in over 10 countries. It was championed by several Radio 1 DJs and was the closing record for many, including Maceo Plex who closed his set at CRSSD festival with the track.

This November sees Kidnap Kid undergo his Birds That Fly Records USA Tour alongside Amtrac and also headline a gig with Tim Green at The Mangle in London.

Kidnap Kid – Moments feat. Leo Stannard (Finnebassen Remix)

Kidnap Kid recently launched his new label Birds That Fly with the anthemic Moments EP, clocking up over a million plays in the past month and reaching #2 on Hypemachine.

Featuring 20 year old BBC Introducing star Leo Stannard (Black Butter), the track now sees a rework from Norwegian star Finnebassen.

Catapulted to fame by releases on Noir music, Finnebassen has since been asked to remix for Parachute Youth on Warner and become a regular on BBC Radio 1 playlists.

Kidnap Kid’s versatility is what shines here. Treading a winding path, he originally made his home on the Black Butter label, but has since spread his wings to encompass a more underground aesthetic. This journey has led to the conception of Birds That Fly, a home for his own and other likeminded producers and a platform that will no doubt be a compelling force in the coming months. The vocals on ‘Moments’ belong to singer and songwriter Leo Stannard, who at only 20 years old is also part of the Black Butter family, and was recently supported by BBC Introducing.

Kidnap Kid – Fall (Tim Green Remix)

After several acclaimed releases on Black Butter, 24-year-old producer / DJ KIDNAP KID introduces his bold new production with the double A-side single ‘Fall / Freedom’ which represents his FFRR debut and is out on June 8th.

Both ‘Fall’ and ‘Freedom’ represent a natural evolution from what KIDNAP KID delivered with early favourites such as ‘Vehl’ and ‘So Close’. His sound has developed into a deeper, more progressive style of house style infused with techno. Inspired in part by his extensive World touring, the two tracks progress and evolve in surprising new directions: ‘Fall’ builds in intensity from its atmospheric introduction, his adept production adding layer upon layer of clinical precision. Sure to become a club staple in big rooms. ‘Freedom’ wields a collection of creativity around a simple stripped back hook and a distinctive chime imbued breakdown.
