HONNE – FHKD feat. Kill J

honne.jpg

HONNE have released a special collaborative version of ‘FHKD’ with KILL J, the original of which closes their critically-acclaimed debut album ‘Warm On A Cold Night’ (out now via Atlantic Records). Following a breakout festival run and sold-out shows across Europe and the US, an extensive worldwide tour is on sale now (including London’s Roundhouse on October 28th). Details of HONNE’s next official single will follow soon.

Describing the collaboration with KILL J, HONNE write: ‘FHKD is one of our favourite tracks on the album and we always thought it would be good to get a feature on it. KILL J’s voice is so unique and interesting and we felt it was the perfect match for what is one of our more electronic/dance orientated tracks. She’s added a really fresh flavour to this track.’

HONNE’s universal, positive portraits of twenty-first century romance have quickly won them a broad global audience: both parallel to – and a stark reaction against – the sometimes-brutal modern dating climate (“we were terrible at being single,” the band say now). Released this summer, ‘Warm On A Cold Night’ is a record where expressing feelings may not come naturally, but nonetheless strives for real love in the digital age.

HONNE are singer Andy and multi-instrumentalist James, who first bonded over their shared upbringing in South-West England; then, the more evocative, US West Coast grooves of their record collections, and a mutual fascination with Japan. During a midnight re-watching of ‘Lost in Translation’, it became apparent that this sense of a partner at a loose end – of wandering through a strange environment, and struggling to convey what you mean – was just as relevant to their lives off-screen. When James found the word ‘Honne’ later on (a Japanese phrase meaning ‘true feelings’), the boys knew it was theirs. The first song HONNE ever finished, ‘Warm On A Cold Night’, now titles their stunning debut album. And between the millions of stream and sell-out shows since then, the soulful duo have carved out an instantly-identifiable sound all of their own.

James Hersey – Miss You (HONNE Remix)

Arriving on the scene with the unshakeable new single ‘Miss You’ (released via Glassnote Records) James Hersey has quickly racked up over 2.5 million streams on the track in less than a month. The single’s success is now set to sky rocket even further with a poignant piano-led remix from electronic soul duo HONNE, available to stream today.

HONNE explain, “This remix came so easy. As soon as we heard James’ vocal we came up with that gentle rhythmic piano part that runs throughout. Something that never ceases to amaze us is how new chord sequences can add to or shift the sentiment of lyrics, and we really enjoyed playing with that for this.”

Co-produced by James alongside Ed Sheeran collaborator Will Hicks and mixed by Stephen Fitzmaurice (Sam Smith, Disclosure, Kwabs, Mary J. Blige), the track is a spacious, captivating future classic, with nods to the dance world. It’s also deeply personal, dealing with the idea of connections between people. James’ talent for songs that will strike a chord with anyone who’s ever experienced heightened emotions, i.e. everyone, is strikingly evident.

“I wrote and produced the first draft of ‘Miss You’ in two virtually sleepless days and nights. Three days later I was on a plane to England to cut (and finish writing) what is now my debut single,” James explains. “It was like windsurfing, when you catch the right gust at the right moment and you’re catapulted forward by this incredible, invisible force. That’s what it feels like to write music you love.”

Despite ‘Miss You’ forming Hersey’s debut single, his voice is one many listeners will be familiar with. ‘Coming Over’, Hersey’s delicate, summer-tinged ode to delayed desires, is a song that took on a whole new life in the dance arena. Initially remixed by Filous (26m Spotify streams and counting), it’s since been subtly reworked by Kygo & Dillon Francis (a staggering 74m Spotify streams and counting). Its success has led to dance legend Tiesto offering up a remix and Hersey touring Europe with Kygo himself.

Now based in Berlin but born and raised in Austria’s capital Vienna, Hersey’s childhood was filled with music. Guitar lessons were augmented by impromptu family music concerts. The house also reverberated to the sounds of Bob Marley, Grateful Dead and, in the mid-nineties, hip-hop. For Hersey himself, Michael Jackson was King.
Happy to explore musical genres, utilizing that grounding in folk, pop, and rock from a young age, Hersey’s songs work in different musical contexts because at the core of them lies classic songwriting. Crucially, the thread throughout is always Hersey himself.

HONNE – Good Together

HONNE have unveiled new track ‘Good Together’, taken from their forthcoming, much-anticipated debut album, ‘Warm On A Cold Night’ (released July 22nd via Atlantic Records). Latest single ‘Someone That Loves You‘ (with Izzy Bizu) has also been B-Listed at Radio 1, with the track already having surpassed 10 million streams and cracked the top 10 of iTunes’ Electronic chart. Following a breakout festival run and sold-out shows across Europe and the US, an extensive worldwide tour is on sale now (including London’s Roundhouse on October 28th).

The gospel-tinged uplift of ‘Good Together’ celebrates that honeymoon-period in a new relationship – however long it lasts – on an album whose sleepy sexuality often lies just beneath the surface, comfortable in its own skin. HONNE’s universal, positive portraits of twenty-first century romance have quickly won them a broad global audience: both parallel to – and a stark reaction against – the sometimes-brutal modern dating climate (“we were terrible at being single,” the band say now). Having sold out their recent European and US tour – including London’s Brixton Electric and New York’s Bowery Ballroom – HONNE have already been confirmed for the likes of Glastonbury, Latitude and Ibiza Rocks this summer: further headline live plans will follow shortly.

Cool and confident, ‘Someone That Loves You’ appears second nature to a band like HONNE, whose universal, positive portraits of twenty-first century romance have quickly won them a broad global audience: both parallel to – and a stark reaction against – the sometimes-brutal modern dating climate (“we were terrible at being single,” the band say now). HONNE & Izzy Bizu – Someone That Loves You

honne2015

HONNE and Izzy Bizu have unveiled collaborative new single ‘Someone That Loves You’, which is released now via Atlantic Records. This follows HONNE’s latest track ‘Gone Are The Days’, which was playlisted at Radio 1, saw the band sell-out their US and European headline tour (including London’s Electric Brixton, New York’s Bowery Ballroom and SXSW) as well as surpassing 20 million Spotify streams.

‘Someone That Loves You’ is a simmering cut of electro-soul from two of the brightest emerging talents of 2016. Long-time fans of each other’s work, HONNE and Izzy first met over Twitter (where else?) and soon set to work on a track, say HONNE, “fundamentally about forbidden love, but from both sides of the story.” Driven by the rich, affecting mix of male/female vocals, ‘Someone That Loves You’ is likewise described by Izzy as a song where “where the grass is always greener, and you want what you can’t have.”

Between the millions of stream and worldwide sell-out shows since then, HONNE have carved out an instantly-identifiable sound of their own. And in the shape of Andy, there’s also the sort of figurehead that you would almost dub an anti-frontman. Launching ‘Someone That Loves You’ with Izzy Bizu, the band are now putting the finishing touches to their much-anticipated debut album, which will be released later this year: a record where expressing feelings may not come naturally, but nonetheless strives for real love in the digital age.

HONNE – 3am

honne

London-based duo HONNE have unveiled new track ‘3AM’ (via Tatemae Recordings / Atlantic Records), taken from their forthcoming, seven-track extended ‘Gone Are The Days (Shimokita Import)’ EP: originally slated for a Japanese-only release, and comprising alternative edits, remixes and previously unheard material. They recently performed the track for Radio 1’s Piano Sessions, alongside a beautiful cover of Jamie XX’s ‘Loud Places’.

Having sold out a launch show at Oval Space (over 1000 tickets) and surpassed 3 million streams on Spotify, HONNE have also confirmed details of their biggest headline gig to date, with Electric Brixton on sale for March 3. The band then play headline shows across New York, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco and West Hollywood, before performing at this year’s SXSW Festival.

Having met on the first day of University, singer Andy and producer James have built an almost hermetically-sealed musical world of HONNE ever since. The pair bonded over their shared upbringing in South-West England, and then the more evocative, US West Coast grooves of their record collection. A mutual fascination with Japan bled into their escapist songwriting and imagery, which is in part collected in the forthcoming ‘Gone Are The Days (Shimokita Import)’ EP. Lyrically the songs here cover homesickness, late-night romance, long distance and the limitations of modern city life (versus the transatlantic sounds and cultures you aspire to). Naming the project after the Japanese word for ‘true feelings’, HONNE are already making waves worldwide – see sold out shows spanning Paris, the UK, Berlin and the US – as one of British music’s leading (night) lights.

HONNE – Gone Are The Days (SOHN Remix)

honne2015

London-based duo HONNE have unveiled a SOHN remix of new single ‘Gone Are The Days’ (via Tatemae Recordings/Atlantic Records). ‘Gone Are The Days’ is taken from a seven-track extended EP – originally slated for a Japanese-only release – comprising alternative edits, remixes and previously unheard material. The ‘Gone Are The Days (Shimokita Import)’ EP will be available worldwide in beautiful limited edition vinyl, CD and digital download (further details to follow).

This comes off the back of HONNE’s recent single ‘Loves The Jobs You Hate’, which received support across the board at Radio 1 and saw the boys surpass 2.5 million streams on Spotify. Having sold out a launch show at Oval Space (over 1000 tickets), HONNE have also confirmed details of their biggest headline gig to date, with Electric Brixton on sale for March 3.

All stuttering beats and nocturnal electronics, new single ‘Gone Are The Days’ was designed for those who can do better; encouraging someone – say the band – “to move on and find someone who will appreciate you.” Having cemented their reputation with early, electro-R&B slow-jams like ‘Warm On A Cold Night’, the more upbeat soul of ‘Gone Are The Days’ suggests a band poised to be one of 2016’s most exciting debut acts.
