Drones Club – Hurricane (Paul Woolford Remix)

Drones Club have shared the Paul Woolford remix of new single ‘Hurricane’, taken from their forthcoming ‘White Crocodile’ EP on PMR Records. The unique London collective have also been confirmed for a headline slot at this year’s Great Escape Festival, following a London show at Courtyard Theatre in support of the EP.

“Sometimes we wake up and outside our door there’s a gathering storm – a growing chaos we cannot control,” write Drones Club, introducing epic and euphoric new single ‘Hurricane’. “There is and will only ever be one option: to throw ourselves into the clouds. In this moment of acceptance and courage we are at our most free. However fucked our world may appear it’s the only one we have.” ‘Hurricane’ introduces an EP themed around ideas of nature, community, and the idea that going back to your roots – or, a prophet-like talking crocodile – can provide a way to move forward.

‘Hurricane’ is typically-ambitious statement from Drones Club, a band whose wider ambitions nonetheless feel far from typical. Their early gigs have been described as part-way between a religious ceremony and a political rally, featuring masked dancers in the crowd, hand-out literature, thick layers of smoke and blinding strobes. They have played surprise, guerrilla shows ranging from the Conservative Party conference (offering out lambs’ hearts to a government they feel fundamentally lacks one at its centre) to storming London Underground and London Fashion Week. It’s this spirit of activism which has always been shot through Drones Club, and is fundamentally empathetic: November’s collaborative single with Georgia, ‘Chelsea Girl’, was written in tribute to (and with proceeds going towards) Chelsea Manning, later pardoned by outgoing-President Obama.

Drones Club’s new EP, ‘White Crocodile’, is wider in scope yet also suggests a growing sense of focus for the London collective. First formed out of the desire to reconnect people in a low-attention economy, they still favour a model that’s collaborative rather than competitive: think the conceptual hijinks of Bill Drummond, the mock-corporate organisational structures of Devo, or the situationist ideas of ZTT and transplant it onto ultra-contemporary pop song writing and production. In 2017, Drones Club are growing an inclusive, idiosyncratic world where anything is possible and anyone is welcome – put out your hands and join the club.

SG Lewis – Shivers (Video + HONNE Remix)

While SG has been DJing around Europe throughout the summer, he plays his first UK full live show in November, we can expect more new music before the year is out, on a roll with PMR Records and an exciting prospect for 2016.

Jamie Woon – Sharpness

Jamie Woon is back with his first new piece of original music since the release of his debut album Mirrorwriting back in 2011. ‘Sharpness’ is the the first single taken from a soon-to-be-announced album due for release later in the year on new label home, PMR Records, joining Disclosure, Jessie Ware and Dornik among others… a perfect fit.

The track landed in the hands of Pharrell a few weeks back who, unbeknown to Jamie, played it on his Beats 1 show of which then Disclosure played it on a show on BBC Radio 1. In a recent interview he spoke about drawing inspiration from D’Angelo’s Voodoo, the process of recording as a live band and the almost lost art of artists using real instruments in their rhythm section in the composition of their records.

Video: Jessie Ware – Say You Love Me

UK soul chanteuse and two-time Brit Award nominee Jessie Ware has just released the video for “Say You Love Me”. The video was directed by Tell No One, an experimental film duo that blends art and technique.

Tell No One are London-based filmmakers Luke White and Remi Weekes. Their work has been screened at New York’s Guggenheim Museum and the British Film Institute. “When I found out Tell No One were interested in directing ‘Say You Love Me,’ I was so confident they would deliver something visually beautiful and provocative,” said Ware. “They are such talents and I have been a fan of their work for a while.  I was an absolute pleasure to work with them on this.  It was probably the most technically challenging thing I have worked on, but for them, it looked like a walk in the park.  They have such confidence in what they do, it was inspiring to watch.”

“Say You Love Me,” written by Jessie Ware, Ed Sheeran, Benny Blanco & Two Inch Punch and produced by BenZel, is from Ware’s sophomore release, Tough Love available October 21st 2014 via PMR Records /Friends Keep Secrets / Interscope Records.

No Artificial Colours feat. Alex Mills – Reach For Me

As strong advocates of burgeoning homegrown talent, the inimitable PMR Records crew celebrated for bringing us Disclosure, Julio Bashmore & Cyril Hahn reveal London duo No Artificial Colours‘ forthcoming release ‘Reach For Me’.

The track carries a sultry vocal line from Alex Mills. Born and raised in South East London, Ryan Ellis and Lewis Wright’s adventure together as No Artificial Colours got off to the most auspicious of kick-starts after house legend Kerri Chandler’s Madtech imprint signed their ‘Crying Wolf’ EP last year; this was quickly followed by a remix of Cyril Hahn’s ‘Perfect Form’. Their distinctive take house, UK bass and garage shines through in their debut release for PMR.
