Directed by David Horsburgh at Agile Films the video brings to life Maribou State’s ‘Kingdom (feat. North Downs)’. Drawing on the themes of their recent album “Kingdoms In Colour”, the visuals build a ‘universe of picture postcards in bloom’. “We wanted to create a video that echoed the track’s themes of travel and exploration,” explains Horsburgh, “playing with the ways in which people travelling can change and transform landscapes as well as themselves. So a mixed media collage approach really spoke to us; sourcing vintage footage from creative commons sources and then subverting it with VFX to turn it into something new. The flower motif from the band’s album artwork was the inspiration for the flowers that grow throughout the video; out of canyons, eyes and even on the moon!”

Maribou State – Kingdom feat. North Downs (Adesse Versions Remix)

Following a steady stream of remixes from the likes of Maceo Plex and DJ Tennis, Maribou State today release “Kingdom (feat. North Downs) (Adesse Versions Remix)”.

Having previously released on labels such as Numbers, Delusions Of Grandeur and Ostgut Ton (under his own name), he delivers a subtle re-work, drawing out the vocals of long-time Maribou State collaborator Jack Sibley AKA North Downs over a lean reconstruction of the original’s percussive, hand-clapped rhythms. “The original has fantastic drums, melodies and vocals, but with room for me to give it a little more energy” he explains. “This was one of the most enjoyable remixes I’ve worked on for a long time”.

The release follows the incredible sold-out performance at the Roundhouse, where Jack joined the band to perform the song live on stage against a backdrop of brand new live visuals and an expanded string quartet in addition to the 5-piece band. Their recently announced 5k capacity Brixton Academy show – on March 7th 2019 – has sold-out in a matter of weeks, charting the phenomenal success of the band since the release of their breakthrough debut album “Portraits” in 2015.

Maribou State – Nervous Tics feat. Holly Walker (Maceo Plex Remix)

Maribou State announce the first in a series of remixes and reworks of their forthcoming album “Kingdoms In Colour”, out today, September 7th on Counter Records.

Released now, Maceo Plex takes on recent single “Nervous Tics” featuring Holly Walker on vocals. The remix – perfected in between road testing on dancefloors in London, Dekmantel Festival and beyond – sees the veteran producer draw on the electro influences that have inspired much of his prolific – nearly two decade long –  career. “When I got sent the parts I instantly could hear the vocal over a cool breaks track. Soon as I laid it over the breakbeat it pretty much wrote itself.”

Maribou State – Nervous Tics feat. Holly Walker

Maribou State’s ‘Nervous Tics’ encapsulates the panoramic nature of the band’s second full-length. Written over a number of writing and recording sessions in Berlin, Beijing, Hertfordshire, The Cotswolds and London, it features a field recording running throughout the track of Chris and Liam in a music store in Beijing playing the Guzheng – a traditional Chinese stringed instrument. “It’s always felt like the Frankenstein moment of the album due to all the unorthodox parts that were glued together during the process” they explain,

Having nearly been overlooked from the final album cut, the last minute addition of new vocals from longtime collaborator Holly Walker – vocalist on fan favourites ‘Midas’ and ‘Steal’ – reinvigorated the band’s love for the track. “Nervous Tics is about the low-lying panic of modern life” explains Holly, “we’re all on our phones getting terrible news headlines and hyperreal Instagram images livestreamed into our brains, and it’s making us jumpy. This song is the realisation that no amount of mindful breathing or downward dog can replace some good old fashioned human contact and emotion.”

With ‘Nervous Tics’ remixes forthcoming from Maceo Plex and DJ Tennis, the single follows on from their recent collaboration with Khruangbin on ‘Feel Good’ – currently receiving plenty of love on the 6 Music A-List – and comes alongside the news that their headline live show at London’s Roundhouse on 18th October – which will feature additional strings and production – has sold-out in just 3 weeks. Expanding to a 5-piece band, Maribou State head out on a UK & EU tour this autumn, including further sold-out stops in Leeds and Amsterdam. This follows a run of summer festival shows – including a headline slot at Sonar By Day – Roskilde, Pukkelpop, Nova Batida and All Points East – where they DJ’d after Flying Lotus.

Maribou State – Feel Good feat. Khruangbin

Maribou State announce their new album “Kingdoms In Colour”, released 7 September via Ninja Tune’s Counter Records imprint, their first full-length since 2015’s breakthrough debut album “Portraits”. The record features new single ‘Feel Good’ – a collaboration born of their friendship with Houston-based trio Khruangbin and a shared love of breakbeats, vintage surf riffs and a common desire to explore worldwide music cultures. “Sometimes a chance meeting plants the seed for something bigger,” say Khruangbin. “Such was the case when we met Maribou State at KOKO a couple of years ago. We are very happy to be involved in this project. And we ‘feel good’ already.”

The band continue their long standing relationship with Holly Walker who has previously vocalled fan favourites such as ‘Midas’, ‘Steal’ and ‘Tongue’. Also featured on the record is recent single ‘Turnmills’ – named after the legendary London club which closed its doors in 2008 – the release was accompanied by a sold-out ‘all-night’ DJ set at Corsica Studios raising money and awareness for the The Night Time Industries Association’s #SaveNightlife campaign to protect the UK’s most vulnerable music venues from closure.

They also announce a new headline UK tour this autumn. Returning with a 5-piece band, they play at London’s iconic Roundhouse on the 18th October. Ahead of this they will also embark on a string of European festival dates which include a headline show at Sonar By Day, Parklife Festival, Roskilde, Pukkelpop Festival and Nova Batida, having recently DJ’d after Flying Lotus at All Points East festival in London.

Maribou State – Turnmills

Today Maribou State release their first new music since 2015’s breakthrough album “Portraits”. The British duo – Liam Ivory and Chris Davids – are fresh from an extended studio hibernation and will take their new live show to a string of summer festivals including a headline set at Sonar 2018, Parklife, Roskilde, Farr Festival, Standon Calling, Pukkelpop, MS Dockville, Nova Batida and El Dorado. They will also DJ after Flying Lotus at London’s eagerly anticipated All Points East Festival.

New single ‘Turnmills’ is a stunning track and a momentous statement of intent, revolving around a magnetically addictive arpeggiated bassline with expansive strings and choral vocals. The track is dedicated to the legendary London nightclub of the same name that closed in 2008 – one of a string of closures during the past 15 years that struck at the heart of the UK capital’s vibrant and globally renowned underground music culture.

Maribou State – Wallflower (Lane 8 Remix)

UK duo Chris Davids and Liam Ivory aka Maribou State released their debut album ‘Portraits’ earlier this summer to widespread international acclaim. Also fresh from a debut album is Anjunadeep’s Daniel Goldstein, better known as Lane 8, whose own album ‘Rise’ was “packed full of beautiful melodies and left-field pop moments” (Mixmag).

After hearing and falling in love with ‘Wallflower’, Daniel got in touch with Maribou State and asked to remix it – and here we present the result, a rolling dancefloor juggernaut layered with anthemic vocals, mournful strings and rumbling brass, rounded off with a huge low end groove.
